The project consist of the renovation and expansion of an institutional building from the 1920’s in Dypvåg, Tvedestrand on the south coast of Norway. The main building, previously a nursing home, of 1100 m2 will be transformed into a holiday place for a company. It will be extended by a garden pavilion housing a fitness room and sauna. A pool with sun deck sits over a gym hall and changing rooms, the gym hall and a multi-purpose sports field will be accessible for the local community replacing these facilities in a nearby school facing potential demolition.Added programs are compressed into the terrain to allow for the historic house to sit proud on a plinth that steps down with terraces and paths through a walled garden. The pavilion takes its cues from 1920’as bathhouses and classical orangeries, providing a glazed facade towards the south and picture windows to the north framing the rock face.
